Its officially 2017.
For many, 2016 has been one of the toughest years, but its finally over. So we can all breathe a sigh of relief and get ready to see what this year will bring.
Its amazing what a difference a year can bring, this time last year I was getting ready to fly to Australia, I was incredibly nervous and couldn’t believe what was coming. And here we are, one year later and I’m preparing for a whole different range of adventures, still with no idea how this year will turn out.
So rather than this being a Resolution post, its more of pep talk, a virtual hug, as for someone who’s anxiety is nearly always based around uncertainty, I can empathise with the fear of a new year.
New Year, New Me
The first thing to remember is not to let the pressure of resolutions and ‘new year new me’ get to you. Yes use it as a push, as motivation, but do not let it define you. It is never too late to become whoever you want to be, whether that’s starting a new hobby/new regime, you can start at any minute of any day. So just because your friends are all off to the gym or starting fun projects, doesn’t mean you have too, take your time and go at your own pace.
Let this be your year of Mental Health & Self Care
Let this be the year, you read books and take time out, you laugh with friends and buy fresh flowers for your house – just because. Let it be the year you set up good skin care regimes and eat foods that make you feel happy. Go for long walks, drink too much tea, have pj days, take care of you. You are so important and you make a difference to the world, so treat yourself as you would treat your best friend.
But most importantly, let this be the year you find and accept help – I would not have made it through last year without help from those around me and CBT sessions, there is nothing to be ashamed of and you are not alone.
Don’t let the fear of the uncertainty overwhelm you, good things can and will happen. Last year was incredibly tough for many of us, but you made it and you can keep going. Be sure to always find the good in every day and be proud of everything you achieve, big or small.
Let go of what held you back last year, whether its toxic friends, negative thoughts or just trying to control the future. This is your fresh start, you can do anything you put your mind too.
Set your goals, keep your head high and shake off the fear. This year cannot hurt you, you are the boss of this year. You will write your own story.
So from my little household to yours, best of luck for 2017, bring what it may x
