It had been a long half hour, talking on the phone on to my therapist and mainly crying about how lonely I felt. How I was missing what I’d had. Eventually she said;
‘Love yourself more than you hate the situation you’re in.’
Something I had never thought about, nor considered as I sank into a dark space of loneliness. Hearing it made me really stop and think.
Yes I was lonely, yes things hurt but I could still love myself and take care of myself. Of course, I am always one to go on and on about Self Care, I’m pretty much an advocate of the stuff. But she made me realise it’s about more than that.
It’s about stopping on a dark day to compliment yourself, to hug yourself, to tell yourself how well you’re doing each and every minute. Wrap yourself up in your duvet and watch whatever your fancy, treat yourself like you would your best friend.
You don’t have to find an answer, you just have to keep loving yourself. No matter how hard it gets.
You don’t need someone else to love you, you need to value and take care of yourself. So even though things might feel dark, you need to take care of yourself. How can you improve the situation?
Okay you can’t fix things or change things, but you can add the little goodness here and there. Make yourself a warm drink, get cosy, eat good food. Love yourself more than you hate whats going on around you.
